Mission Cancer Diagnostics Center open in Fallbrook

A good man’s dream has been realized! For several years since his retirement, Dr. Chahin M. Chahbazian has wanted to continue in his profession of medicine without the rigors of maintaining a full-time business of treating patients.

His knowledge of the many diseases of cancer is profound indeed, since he has practiced his specialty of radiation oncology for more than 40 years.

After Dr. Chahbazian completed his medical degree, he trained in radiation therapy at the Penrose Cancer Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO, with the renowned Juan del Regato, MD, a founder of the specialty.

Dr. Chahbazian is a diplomate of the American College of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. He moved to Orange County with his family and founded his private practice, Radiation Oncology Medical Group of Southern California, in Fountain Valley and Anaheim. He practiced there for 20 years until his retirement.

Now Dr. Chahbazian has decided to again impart his expertise to people in need – people who have concerns about cancer, be it prevention, screening or second opinions. His intention is to impart advice after thorough examinations of the patient. He will not treat the patient, but he will help advise him/her of the most appropriate treatment possible.

He explained that at his new office, Mission Cancer Diagnostics Center, “we are dedicated to pursuing the objective of early cancer detection and to improve the overall results in the field of cancer. Our program includes cancer prevention, comprehensive cancer detection and second opinions for patients who already have a diagnosis of cancer.

“In our Cancer Prevention Program, the patient will learn to avoid cancer-causing elements, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive sun exposure, dietary and environmental factors, to name a few. It will emphasize lifestyle changes and overall healthy living.

“In our Comprehensive Cancer Screening Program, the emphasis is to screen the patients as a whole, rather than one organ at a time, such as only the breast or prostrate, which is currently being done in many clinics. Our program will submit the patient to a complete and thorough history and physical examination, as well as appropriate radiological and lab tests and, if indicated, a colonoscopy.

“The purpose of this program is to detect cancers in their earliest stage of development. Most of this work will be done under one roof with a single appointment, rather than with numerous appointments with specialists of each separate organ. “Should there be a significant finding of cancer, the patient and family will be informed of the details of the diagnosis, its character, prognosis and will be assisted and directed to the most appropriate form of treatment.

“Our Cancer Second Opinion Program is for patients who already have a diagnosis of cancer. They will receive a complete history and appropriate physical examination, as well as a thorough review of all laboratory, radiological and pathological findings. Following the complete evaluation of the case, our opinion will be offered to the patient as to the veracity of the diagnosis and its treatment options.

“Our recommendations may agree with those already given to the patient by his or her attending physician, in which case, it will serve the purpose of reassuring the patient. If not, the different treatment options will be discussed in detail with the patient and family.

“A copy of our recommendations will be available to the patient’s attending physician, upon the written request of the patient.”
