Citizens can learn more about law enforcement

A free six-week Citizen’s Academy will be offered to the public by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Class size is limited to 25 individuals and will take place Wednesday evenings, February 20 and 27 and March 5, 19 and 26, and Saturday, March 15.

The academy will include information-packed sessions to acquaint attendees with the workings of the Sheriff’s Department. Topics include: home and personal safety, jail tour, crime scene investigations, illegal drugs, patrol ride-along, communications center tour, K-9 demonstration and more.

Those attending all six class sessions will receive a graduation certificate.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will undergo a background check prior to acceptance into the Citizen’s Academy. Deadline to apply is January 18.
