Locals participate in 'Volunteers for Minerals'

Members of the Fallbrook Gem & Mineral Society were pleased to once again participate in the San Diego County Fair at Del Mar.

One of the oldest participants in the fair is the ‘Volunteers for Minerals’ group, founded by Josie Scripps. The organization is 100 percent volunteer-driven.

Soon after Volunteers for Minerals was founded, Garth and Janice Bricker of Fallbrook joined the organization. The Brickers have been making and selling grab bags at the fair for 43 years.

The grab bags have five identified minerals or fossils. It is a highlight of the fair for hundreds of children and adults.

Over the years, the volunteer booth at the fair has expanded and now sells mineral specimens, custom crafted jewelry, books and more.
