A 2-year-old toddler was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Alvarado Street just east of Potter Street on Saturday, September 20, at about 6:20 p.m.
Officer Steven Zelasco of the California Highway Patrol, said the young boy ran off of a sidewalk, between two parked cars, and into the street and direct path of a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by 38-year-old Maria Alegria.
“The driver was traveling at only 20 to 30 miles per hour and hit her brakes immediately when she saw the child dart out into the street but could not stop in time,” Zelasco said.
