FALLBROOK – At the end of May, local resident Diane Hein found out that she has been accepted for induction into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame (SSHOF) in the class of 2010. The induction ceremony will be held during the SPA Senior Women’s National Championship tournament at Gallatin, Tenn., September 16 to 19.
Voting for entry into the SSHOF is done by representatives from each of the nine National Senior Softball organizations who select both men and women candidates previously nominated by their peers. Hein is only the tenth woman player to enter the SSHOP and the first from California.
Hein started her senior ball career in 1994 in Fountain Valley and still plays in a ladies league in Huntington Beach one night a week and with the Fallbrook league one or two nights each week. Her tournament team, California Spirit 60’s, participates in eight or 10 major national tournaments throughout the United States and Canada.
When asked how it feels to be in the Senior Softball Hall of Fame, Hein said, “I’m thrilled and proud to be honored by this award. Softball brings so much happiness and camaraderie to many senior women throughout the country, and it gives us an opportunity to watch and play against many skilled athletes.”
