Jorde wins individual league golf title, Warriors second as team

Fallbrook High School junior Seth Jorde won the individual Avocado East League boys golf championship during the North County Conference tournament May 9-10 at the Woods Valley course in Valley Center.

Jorde shot rounds of 78 and 77 strokes for a 36-hole score of 155 shots. “That was nice,” said Fallbrook coach Steve Jorde. “He was just real consistent, played pretty well for the two days.”

The league’s top individual score May 9 was 76. Seth Jorde took 40 strokes for his first nine holes before completing the remaining nine holes in 38 shots. “That was the day it was cold and windy,” Steve Jorde said.

The league’s low score on the second day was 74.

Fallbrook placed second among Avocado East League teams in the tournament with a team score of 833 strokes. San Pasqual won the tournament with a score of 826. “I thought our kids played pretty well,” Jorde said.

The Golden Eagles amassed a seven-stroke lead after the first day, when the cold and wind adversely affected scores. “The golf course was playing tough,” Jorde said.

Sophomore Braeden Koran took 82 shots on the first day, junior Robert Akasaka had a first-round score of 83, junior Blake Burley completed the course in 88 strokes, junior Caleb Ashbrook ended the first day with a score of 91, and senior Sergio Massey hit the ball 92 times.

San Pasqual and Fallbrook both had team scores of 411 for the second day. Akasaka required 79 strokes, Koran had a score of 80, Burley swung 85 times, Massey’s round consisted of 90 shots, and Ashbrook’s 18 holes took him 92 strokes.

Akasaka and Koran tied for seventh among individuals in the league tournament with their 36-hole scores of 162.

San Pasqual also won the league championship with a 10-0 record in league dual meets. “They had a very good year,” Jorde said of the Golden Eagles.

Those matches accounted for two of Fallbrook’s losses. The Warriors finished second in league dual meet competition with a 6-3-1 record, and Fallbrook ended the regular season with a 14-5-1 overall record. “Our kids did very well. They really did a great job,” Jorde said.
