19-year-old arrested for beating man with baseball bat

Detective Dan Laibach reported that deputies and detectives from the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation arrested 19-year-old Mario Garcia of Fallbrook yesterday (Dec. 21) for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

On Nov. 13, at approximately 2:46 a.m., local deputies received a radio call to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the vicinity of Via Monserate and Linda Vista.

"Upon arrival they found a 24-year-old white male adult who had been beaten with a baseball bat by a Hispanic male adult after leaving a party in the area," said Laibach. "The victim was transported to the hospital with lacerations to his face and back and was later released."

The suspect in the assault fled the scene, but witnesses provided information.

The suspect was later identified as Garcia during Laibach's follow-up investigation.

Detectives obtained and served a search warrant on Dec. 21 at Garcia's residence and he was taken into custody.

"Evidence from the assault was located in the residence," said Laibach. "Garcia was transported and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for 245 (a) (1) PC - ADW, and 12020 (a) PC - Possession dangerous weapon." Bail was set at $30,000.
