Dennis Deuling: providing the dream home

For many individuals, recapping 2011 does not take a long time. Many say that they haven’t done much, and that they hope to do better in the New Year. For Dennis Deuling, this has not been the problem. Instead, Deuling has been busy renovating his clients’ houses and modifying them into their ideal homes.

This even means taking some customers’ worst nightmare and transforming it into a dream come true.

“I got involved with a home that caught fire in Temecula last year,” said Deuling. “It was a large home, six years old that was probably about 2,950 sq. ft. The dryer had caught on fire, and when I got involved, I let them know that the whole house would have to come down to the slab.”

The homeowners permitted Deuling and his company to take the house – which had been a high-end track home – down to the concrete slab, and for nine months, the team worked transforming the home. Small details were focused on – the walls were treated by hand, and the doors throughout the home were replaced with solid pieces of wood. Coincidentally, the homeowner had worked for the housing developer who had originally built her home, said Deuling, so she understood how much extra effort went into her remodel.

“It was already a very nice house, but the details made the difference. We kept the good stuff, and just elaborated upon them,” said Deuling. “The kitchen originally had a five-foot long island, and we replaced it with an 11-foot island with a raised countertop on the end of it.”

Being able to provide homeowners with the right remodel plan for their home is one of Deuling’s strengths. After having been in the construction industry as a general contractor for over 25 years, Deuling has helped homeowners remodel their homes throughout the Fallbrook area.

“My father was a general contractor, and my brothers are all in the business. I have been doing this my whole life,” he said.

Some of the greatest jobs that Deuling has worked on are those that were compromised by catastrophes, such as fire.

“It’s a great feeling of accomplishment to be able to help people who have lost everything. They are devastated and emotional wrecks, then I can help them rebuild,” he said. “It’s very gratifying.”

Deuling feels fortunate that he has been able to leave his customers pleased with the caliber of his work.

“Most of the time, people have a plan or idea, and we can find ways to improve it as the work is in process,” he said. “Usually we can do this without increasing the cost, and the project becomes greater than the people’s expectations. It works that way a lot. I’m a pretty lucky guy.”

A Fallbrook resident, Deuling has raised his family in the area. A firm believer in supporting local businesses, Deuling uses local subcontractors for his larger projects. A member of the local Chamber of Commerce, Deuling plans on becoming a stronger part of the community.

Because of his extensive work in the community, Deuling has developed a reputation of high quality work in Fallbrook.

“I’m tenacious, and you could set your watch by me,” he said, with a laugh. “I arrive five minutes before I’m supposed to, and I’m there after quitting time. When I run a job, I don’t run it by sitting in a truck; I’m there working with the crew. I’m not what you would call a ‘paper contractor.’”

To continue providing the best service possible for his customers, Deuling has expanded his company to install solar technology for homeowners.

“It’s a new year, and we really need to do something to get ourselves off of oil,” said Deuling, who has installed solar paneling on his own property. “I’m a believer in solar technology, and have been providing solar for the last two-and-a-half years. There are no side effects; it’s the only thing that makes sense.”

Before installing solar panels on a customer’s property, Deuling sits with his customer and helps them determine what savings they want to achieve.

“My main work has always been remodeling, and saw the natural progression of helping the environment through solar,” he said. “I’m very much sold on it. I have been to school to learn about the technical part of solar, and I am looking forward to installing as many systems as I can.”
