Police seek public's help in triple shooting in Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY - Police sought the public's help today in finding the man who wounded three people in front of a Cathedral City home in a drive- by shooting.

The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 32700 block of Navajo Trail, Cathedral City police Sgt. Julio Luna said.

''The three shooting victims were visiting with friends in the front yard of the home. During this time, a lone male suspect drove past the home and fired toward the group. The suspect then fled from the scene in the described vehicle,'' Luna said.

''When the officers arrived at the location, they discovered three victims lying on the driveway,'' he said.

The three victims -- Mario Mota, 30 of Palm Springs, and Cathedral City residents Filiberto Velasquez, 44, and Manuel Estrada, 40 -- received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, Luna said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 20 to 36 years old with a dark complexion. Police said he used a handgun, possibly semi-automatic. The vehicle was described as a Green 1990 to 1996 Toyota Camry with tinted rear windows.

Anyone with information was asked to call (760) 770-0300.
