Strong gusty northeast winds into this afternoon

SAN DIEGO COUNTY VALLEYS-SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS-Riverside COUNTY MOUNTAINS- Strong and gusty northeast to east winds will continue across southern California today, with the strongest winds occurring through and below passes and canyons. These winds will gradually weaken this afternoon, then gust at times through late tonight.

High wind warning remains in effect until 4 pm this afternoon. Wind advisory remains in effect from 4 pm this afternoon to 3 am Monday.

Winds...areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph...with local gusts to 60 mph through and below passes and canyons. Locally, gusty northeast winds to 45 mph will continue for late this afternoon through late tonight.

Timing...strongest and most widespread winds this afternoon.

Location...strongest winds will be along the coastal slopes and foothills of the San Diego county mountains.

Impacts...the winds will make driving difficult...especially for motorists with high profile vehicles. Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines. Minor property damage is possible... mainly to unsecured outdoor objects.

Reports...strongest gust to 60 mph at 9 am at Sill Hill.

Precautionary/Preparedness actions...

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
