The absolute worst thing that you can do is to divulge your Social Security number to someone you do not know. Do not give personal information on the telephone, by mail or over the Internet to someone you do not know. Shred all important documents that you are discarding and do not simply throw those documents out in the trash. Get a free credit report each year from each of the three main credit-reporting agencies and then r...

  • Getting Ready for Easter

    Updated Apr 2, 2009

Even if we didn’t have a calendar, a stroll through a supermarket would tell you it is almost spring. Of all those sprouting now, few are as quick to prepare as asparagus, spinach or fresh tender chard. For asparagus, the “peel-or-not-to-peel” debate continues. My only advice is that those who have tasted peeled asparagus generally concede that the effort is worth the results. Now, this peeling is with a light touch…don’t apply too much pressure…and just remove the thinnest possible strip. This strip is made of cellulose....

  • We were cared for well

    Updated Apr 2, 2009

On Friday the 13th of March, at about 3:15 a.m., I called 9-1-1 to report my husband, Gary, was having chest pains. I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to all who helped us, from the kind, soft-spoken 9-1-1 operator to the five wonderful paramedics who were so calm and helpful as they checked Gary out and decided he needed to go to Fallbrook Hospital. One of the men even made sure everything was turned off in our home before we left so it would be safe. The staff at the emergency room was incredible, took such good care of Gar...

I would be more than glad to offer my services free of charge to any of the readers of the Village News currently needing help with resume writing or completing employment applications. I have a great deal of experience in hiring employees at a...

Bush to expend billions of taxpayer dollars on the ‘phony’ invasion of Iraq and provide the excuse for Lockheed, Boeing, Sylvania, Blackwater, etc. to profit enormously. According to the conservatives, this was not “wasteful,” but to use taxpayer dollars to pro...
