Cicily Nannette Levering

Cicily Nannette Levering left this life unexpectedly early Sunday morning, December 10, 2006. It is with tremendous heartache that we relate her passing to you.

Born in San Pedro, CA, in 1949, Cicily was an extraordinary person born in an extra-ordinary time. Although a “child of the ’60s,” her passions clearly reflected the refinement and grace of the nostalgic past. Federal architecture, classic movies and musicals, tea and scones, pinot noir and dark chocolate, a soft blanket, a good book and a cat in her lap brought to her a life of elegance and simplicity that comforted and assured family and friends. She filled her heart and home with song throughout her life. She loved to dance and was known to suddenly break out into song.

Cicily worked as a nurse for more than 20 years and was a dedicated volunteer to a number of local organizations. She was an active member of the Fallbrook Quilt Guild and longtime member of Eastern Star, the Angel Society and the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary.

Cicily was a very creative person; she expressed this creativity with bits and baubles of fabric and notions. She may be best known as “the lady with the hats.” No hat was ordinary when worn by Cicily. A well-placed pin and a twist of ribbon and she turned the ordinary into the extraordinary. She was an avid quilter and collector. She quilted for family and friends and with each stitch she wove her love and passion for life.

Cicily was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1980. She didn’t let the MS dictate her life; rather, she battled the disease at every step. When her doctor told her she could no longer do heavy housework she replied, “I have two teenage daughters. I don’t do housework.”

Cicily was a passionate person who lived life to the fullest. She will be sorely missed by all who know her.

There are many things she had yet to do. She had places to go and people to see and quilts to finish. We will remember her for her smile, her warmth, her love and the beauty she brought to our lives.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Richard F. Levering, daughter Wendy Roe and husband Greg Roe, daughter Heather Eltringham and husband Greg Eltringham, mother Lois Virginia Young, brother Robert G. Young, brother David Young and wife Marianne Young and a large and extended family.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 15, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church.
