Scholarships target college-bound cancer survivors

College-bound cancer survivors are encouraged to apply for scholarships through the American Cancer Society’s Young Cancer Survivor Scholarship program. Up to $7,500 will be awarded to each of 70 students to assist with college tuition and nurture leadership skills in the fight against cancer.

Applicants must have received a cancer diagnosis at age 18 or younger and be age 25 or younger. They must be enrolled in or plan to attend a two- or four-year accredited institution of higher education within the state and must demonstrate financial need. The award stipulates that recipients volunteer with their local American Cancer Society office.

Families touched by cancer often incur significant hardship due to loss of income as well as treatment and rehabilitation expenses. By funding these scholarships, the Society furthers its mission to measurable improve the quality of life for cancer survivors and their loved ones.

Applications are available on the Society Web site, http://www.cancer.org/scholar. Completed applications must be received online in the California Division office by April 27.
