Fallbrook Christmas Parade set for December 1

Last updated 9/27/2007 at Noon

The highly popular Fallbrook Christmas Parade will be held on December 1 with the theme “Hometown Memories.” In keeping with the theme, Dode Martin, a resident of Fallbrook since 1926, has been selected as the Grand Marshal.

Martin is being recognized primarily for his work with the Fallbrook Historical Society. He has been a life member of the Society since 1993 and was named “Pioneer of the Year” earlier this year.

Martin also received the Vintage Award from the Society in 2001 and has been the Construction Superintendent of the new Donald J. Rivers Interpretive Center, now being completed at the Society’s headquarters on Rocky Crest Road.

When not involved in Historical Society affairs, Martin spends his time restoring cars. He became nationally acclaimed in drag racing circles in the late 1950s and early 1960s as the co-founder of Dragmaster in Carlsbad, building innovative Chrysler-powered dragsters for Southern California raceways.

Martin was also a partner/owner/builder of the Grand Tradition 23 years ago, so he certainly has a lot of “hometown memories.”

Applications for the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade are now available. Anyone who would like to be a part of this spectacular event can call Carol at the chamber office at (760) 728-5845. Deadline for applications is November 1. Anyone who would like to help, either as a sponsor or as a volunteer, can also call Carol.

Additional details on the parade, its special guests and other features will be publicized in the coming weeks.
