100th Senior Challenge to be held on Sept. 23

FALLBROOK – On September 23, the 100th Senior Challenge Cribbage match will be played. The Senior Challenge started as a way to get the players from the Oceanside and Fallbrook Senior Centers together for fun and some great cribbage. The monthly matches (except in December) are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Vista Elks Lodge, 1947 East Vista Way, and begin at 12:30 p.m.

The first match was held on September 27, 2001. The current standings are Fallbrook 61 wins, Oceanside 37 and fires one. The October 2007 match was not played due to the fact that the Fallbrook players were evacuated because of the fire.

At the September match a lasagna dinner is being served to the players beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The 41 player match held on August 26 was won by Fallbrook. The Fallbrook Senior Center team had 76 wins to Oceanside’s 71. Ted Moody won all seven of his games with two skunks to take first place. Second place went to Alice Souza with six wins and two skunks. Virginia Ballard was in third place with six wins and one skunk. In fourth and fifth were Anne Flaherty and Fred Kreutzkamp with five wins and three skunks.
