Fallbrook Garden Center blooms with exotic and holiday plants

With the upcoming change of seasons, Fallbrook area homeowners are looking for creative and unique ways to decorate their homes. With his expertise in all things flora, Dennis Smith, owner of the Fallbrook Garden Center and South Coast Tropicals, can help make any home a holiday or tropical paradise.

Upon entering the Garden Center, guests find themselves in a bright, open and cheery nursery with hedges and trees neatly sectioning off a wide diversity of plants for sale.

Smith is more than willing and ready to help anyone who is new to owning tropical or exotic plants.

“I always have more than enough information for people when they ask me about a plant,” said Smith, with a laugh. “It comes from the fact that I truly enjoy working with plants.”

There is more than the typical shrubbery and trees available at the Garden Center. Smith prides himself on having an expansive variety of fruit trees and berry plants that aren’t always easily found in nurseries.

For those who want to grow their own bananas, papayas, pineapple, blueberries, and even coffee beans, Smith will help find the plant that will be successful for growing in the part of Fallbrook that his customer’s home is in.

“For example, if someone wants a banana plant, depending on where they live, we have two options for them,” stated Smith.

For someone who lives at the top of Fallbrook’s hills, where the weather is milder, the Garden Center has a plant that will grow well in warmer weather; but for a customer who lives at the bottom of the hills, where frost is more likely to occur, Smith said he has a plant that has been bred to withstand chill and frost.

“We have all the plants necessary for transforming a yard into a garden that will give people a variety of fruits and vegetables to enjoy,” said Smith. “It’s a great way to save money.”

In addition, those who are trying to cut back on their water bill will find many choices in beautiful, aesthetically-pleasing succulents and other drought-tolerant plants to adorn their home and yards with.

“We are constantly changing the plants that we have in the store, depending on the season,” said Smith. “We love to showcase the diverse and unusual plants that we have here.”

For the holidays, the Garden Center has a variety of firs, poinsettias, holly and other beautiful plants available for purchase to make the holidays merry for years to come.

“We have a variety of live plants available for the holidays,” said Smith. “Instead of chopping down a Christmas tree, customers can buy a potted, living tree from us and decorate it year after year.”

Even the Garden Center’s more exotic plants can be used around the home for the holidays, said Smith.

“For example, the Hawaiian poinsettia has beautiful red leaves, and can grow outdoors. It has the red leaves similar to those of the traditional poinsettia,” said Smith.

Each of the plants available at the Garden Center comes available in different sizes, from one-gallon to 15-gallon pots to take home. Plus, purchasers of larger plants don’t have to find a truck to carry their purchases home if they don’t have one.

“As always, we offer free delivery for our customers in the Fallbrook area,” said Smith. “Customer service has always been very important with us.”

The Garden Center is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on either the Garden Center or South Coast Tropicals, call (760) 723-2138, or go to http://www.sctpalms.com.
