Three Fallbrook 4-H riders competed in the equestrian events at the 42nd annual Ramona Junior Fair, and all three won multiple awards.
“We were thrilled,” said Fallbrook 4-H horse project leader Robin Dixon.
The equestrian competition took place July 28 at Aspin Ranch. Sierra Monrroy, Natalie Tate, and Cathleen Runde were the three Fallbrook riders.
“The weather was ice. It wasn’t too hot, so we were happy,” Dixon said.
Monrroy won the Junior High Point, Western High Point, and Junior Showmanship honors. She turned 14 in July, but because she was 13 at the beginning of the year, she competed in the junior division. Monrroy won the Trail, Western Equitation, and English Equitation classes while placing second in Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, and Horsemanship. In the four Gymkhana competitions, she won the Texas Barrels and Keyhole events while placing second in Pole Bending and Single Pole. The Hunter Hack event is an open competition not broken down by age divisions, and she finished second. Monrroy used an eight-year-old paint horse gelding known as Dancer for all of her events.
Tate, who turned 17 in August and thus competed as a 16-year-old in the senior division, won the Senior High Point and Senior Showmanship awards. She also took first in Western Equitation among senior riders. She was second in English Equitation, Western Pleasure, and Showmanship, third in English Pleasure, third in each of her Gymkhana events, and third overall in Hunter Hack. Tate did not compete in the Trail event. Her horse, Pandore, is a 16-year-old gelding who is an Arab/Morgan cross.
Runde also has an August birthday; she is now 16 and was 15 during the Ramona Junior Fair. She won the senior division English Equitation, English Pleasure, and Trail classes on Annie, a 13-year-old thoroughbred mare. Annie also gave Runde second place in Western Equitation and third place in Western Pleasure and Horsemanship. Runde rode Zodie, a 16-year-old Welsh pony bay mare, in the Hunter Hack and Gymkhana events. Runde was disqualified in the Texas Barrels competition but finished second in each of the other three Gymkhana competitions, and she was fourth in the Hunter Hack.
“We have a good group,” Dixon said. “They practice and they work hard.”
