Volunteers sought to help with project at Fallbrook's Warrior Stadium Saturday, October 5; project receives NFL grant

FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Football Boosters and other volunteers working on the new Press Box project at Warrior Stadium are happy to report the work is now 60 percent complete. A big effort will take place on Saturday, October 5, to further the work and it is hoped other volunteers within the community will come forward to help that day.

"It is a great chance for all to see just how far this community construction project has come," said Tish Oppermann. "With the help of more volunteers, we can move this project along even further this coming weekend."

"Mr. John Ransbury, the general contractor, is in need of volunteer assistance this Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 a.m. at the construction site," continued Oppermann. "Helpers will be used to paint, move fencing, clean the construction area, and to perform other misc. construction-related duties. A barbecue lunch will be provided for all those present. All are welcome, no experience needed."

Oppermann said skilled labor will be on hand to direct workers.

"Please wear work clothes, closed-toed shoes, and bring work gloves if possible," she advised.

Volunteers are asked to use the Winterhaven Road entrance to the school, located between the junior parking lot and Ivy High School.

SAN DIEGO — Fallbrook Union High School (FUHS) will receive a $50,000 grant for the restoration of their football stadium press box, courtesy of the San Diego Chargers, the National Football League Grassroots Program and LISC San Diego.

“We are tremendously excited and grateful to have been selected as the recipient of this very generous award.

Through the assistance of LISC, the NFL Foundation, the San Diego Chargers, along with our football boosters and community sponsors, we can finally see this long-awaited project coming to fruition,” expressed Rod King, Principal of Fallbrook Union High School.

The Grassroots Program is a partnership between the NFL Foundation and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) that works with community groups to rehabilitate playing fields as well as provide general field support. FUHS is the second oldest high school in San Diego County, and has undergone improvements to Warrior Stadium through partnerships with community leaders and their private donations.

“Fallbrook High School is one of San Diego’s oldest schools. It has great sports programs and tradition, but also, due to its age, many, many needs,” said Chargers Executive Vice President & CEO A.G. Spanos of the school that was established in 1921. “We’re proud to help with the restoration of their press box and help them continue to realize the benefits of their football and sports programs.”

The NFL Foundation, in partnership with the San Diego Chargers, serves as a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and safety of sport, youth football and the communities in which we live. The Chargers continue to be the leading private contributor and financial supporter of schools in San Diego County.

LISC echoes the need for improved gathering placing places, recreational facilities and sports opportunities in underserved neighborhoods. Since 1998, the NFL’s Youth Football Fund has contributed $32 million to restore or build more than 256 community fields in more than 70 cities nationwide. That contribution has prompted other supporters to kick in roughly $125 million in additional funding to support field redevelopment.

“LISC San Diego is extremely pleased, once again, to facilitate the program and ensure this support impacts San Diego neighborhoods. In total, San Diego has completed 10 NFL Grassroots projects, and we cannot wait until the completion of our 11th,” said Edward Lopez, Executive Director of LISC San Diego.
