Soils engineer has product that saves water, money – guaranteed

Gregg Kirkpatrick is no dummy, so if the graduate of UC Berkeley guarantees he has a product that will help you save water and money, you probably want to listen.

Kirkpatrick, a soils engineer who lives in Fallbrook and has an avocado grove, is promoting a pair of bio degradable products designed to reduce water usage and provide "greater health for your trees, grass, plants and vegetables."

Kirkpatrick explains the products – All Purpose Spray Adjuvant 80 (APSA 80) and AG Nutriplant – in detail at the free seminars he hosts on Saturdays at the Fallbrook Library.

"We're going to have a meeting every Saturday through the summer, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the library," said Kirkpatrick. "The reason I am marketing the product is because I use it on my own farm and I'm getting the results that I expected."

Living in Fallbrook, Kirkpatrick knows the anguish of going to the mail box and finding the water bill. He said that anxiety has lessened over the past several years thanks to APSA 80.

"We have saved, in six years, over $30,000 in water," said Kirkpatrick, who farms four acres. "You water less frequently, or as frequently with less water. So when you look at the cost effectiveness of it, the return on investment is huge."

So how does APSA 80 work?

"APSA 80 is a wetting agent," said Kirkpatrick. "It breaks down the surface tension of the water, so the water, instead of being round beads – because water is electrical in nature and will bead up – is a flat sheet. And because it's a flat sheet, it makes a 100 percent contact area with the soil. Once you make a flat sheet with the contact area, that water goes into the soil immediately and breaks up the compaction (of the soil)."

"You're going to save water because the water penetrates much faster in the soil, so you reduce vaporization," continued Kirkpatrick. "The soil out here is like concrete. You put water on it and it just puddles up and evaporates. So you're not getting the water into the soil and into the roots. With APSA 80, the water goes into the soil much quicker and gets the roots down deeper."

While getting water into the soil quicker is the job of APSA 80, AG Nutriplant has the role of delivering nutrients to the plants.

"Every plant needs trace elements," said Kirkpatrick. "They need boron, they need manganese, they need copper, zinc, they need nitrogen, phosphorus. All these trace elements are in AG Nutriplant. Those nutrients go into the plants, and if it's vegetable or citrus, something you're going to eat, you have to have those trace elements in the food you eat because those trace elements maintain health in our body."

Kirkpatrick said the one-two punch of APSA 80 and AG Nutriplant gives trees and plants the ability to fight off disease and pests.

"It's going to make your plant healthier because the roots are going to go deeper," said Kirkpatrick. "Once you get the water and the nutrients into the plant, the plant is automatically going to have greater resistance to disease. The healthier the plant is, the more resistant it is. Plants that are stressed and on the edge of failure, bugs can get in there and destroy them because they are weakened."

Kirkpatrick added that the combination of APSA 80 and AG Nutriplant also results in better production with less water.

"Getting those nutrients deep down in the roots is what gets that fruit larger and more abundant while saving half the water or more than you're currently using," said Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick said it is easy to apply APSA 80 and AG Nutriplant products, which are sprayed on the soil.

"I can show people how to do it in 10 to 20 minutes and they're ready to go," said Kirkpatrick. "I make sure they get the right equipment, the right sprayer and dilutor. I don't charge anything to show them how to do it."

Since both the APSA 80 and AG Nutriplant are highly concentrated, a little goes a long way.

"For 2 1/2 gallons of APSA 80 the cost is $135," said Kirkpatrick. "People who don't use this type of product might think of it as being kind of expensive, but each application is about

2 1/2 ounces, so they'll get over 100 applications from that 2 1/2 gallons. And each application will cover up to an acre."

The products also come with Kirkpatrick's money-back guarantee.

"There is a 180-day, 100 percent satisfaction guarantee," said Kirkpatrick. "Within 180 days of purchasing the product, if you're not satisfied for any reason, you'll get your money back, no questions asked."
