  • What can't be seen can compromise the sale of a home

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

FALLBROOK — It may not be the color of the walls but the activity behind them that ultimately seals the fate of many real estate transactions, according to Glen Fowler at Fowler Pest Control. While many homeowners are entering the year’s busiest time for selling homes, far too many are preoccupied only with aesthetics, failing to consider the severity of hidden dangers such as termites, observes Glen Fowler. “Surely an ugly color of paint on a wall may turn off a prospective buyer,” he says, “but finding a raging termite i...

  • Being empty, getting filled

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

As a way of staff-building, our pastor takes us on little outings. I like to call them church perks. Last week we went to lunch at Rubios (yum) and out to see the new movie, “Fireproof.” It’s a great Christian movie about the efforts of a man to repair his broken marriage. As I sat among my married colleagues a deep pain surfaced in my heart. Unlike the movie, as a widow, there is no possibility for a happily-ever-after in this world. I fled to the privacy of my car for a good cry. Home again to an empty nest, I snugg...

  • I have a song that Jesus gave me!

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

It’s almost November…the season of thanksgiving, and gratitude, and song! I love this time of the year, when the days finally start growing cooler after a long hot summer, and when the hearts of children and families, once again, begin eagerly anticipating the joyful arrival of the holidays! No matter what season we’re in, no matter how “sunny” or “cloudy” the skies, Paul declares: “How we praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we belo...

  • Warrior water polo loses home opener in overtime

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Fallbrook High School’s boys water polo team lost its home opener in overtime October 15. Torrey Pines took a 10-9 victory over the Warriors. “We dropped a close one to them in the last second of the game, which was disappointing,” said Fallbrook coach Bob Lamont. Fallbrook led the game 5-3 at halftime, but the Falcons tied the game in the fourth period and the score was knotted at six goals apiece at the end of regulation. The teams then played two mandatory three-minute overtime periods, and after the first overtime the s...

  • Fallbrook field hockey falls 4-0 to San Pasqual

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

On October 21, the Fallbrook girls’ varsity field hockey team hosted the San Pasqual Eagles. The Lady Warriors struggled throughout the game. A defense that normally gives up less than a goal per contest allowed the Eagles to score four times. In addition, Fallbrook’s offensive leaders were held scoreless as San Pasqual swiftly shutout the Warriors 4-0. The Eagles took control of the game right from the start. They quickly set the tempo and kept Fallbrook’s goalie, Jahna...
