Democratic Club launches Young Democrats Essay Contest

FALLBROOK — The Democratic Club of Greater Fallbrook has announced the launch of its Young Democrats Essay Contest for all local residents between the ages of 18 and 21. The essay topics are: “Why I Support the War in Iraq” or “Why I Do Not Support the War in Iraq.” The contest winner will receive a free trip to San Francisco to attend the Annual Convention of the Young Democrats of America, August 4-7. This prize includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and registration for the convention. The deadline for contest entries is July 12.

The Young Democrats of America, a 73 year-old-organization, encourages young people to become active participants in the political process and provides them with opportunities for developing the skills and experience they will need to lead our nation into the future. Membership in the organization includes young people between the ages of 18 and 36.

The Democratic Club of Greater Fallbrook, through this contest, hopes to stimulate greater interest in local Democratic politics and provide a potential future leader from the Fallbrook area with the opportunity to develop bonds with other young people from across the nation. Convention-goers will hear nationally recognized speakers such as Barack Obama, Howard Dean and Senator Barbara Boxer. The winner will also be able to attend workshops and caucuses with local and state party leaders.

Contest guidelines

To enter the essay contest, participants:

1) Must reside in the Democratic Club of Greater Fallbrook area: Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow, DeLuz.

2) Must be between the ages 18 and 21 by August 3.

3) Must e-mail or postmark entry by July 12. E-mail essays to: [email protected]. Mail essays to: YDA Essay Contest, 3212 Sage Road, Fallbrook, CA 92028

4) Must include writer’s name, e-mail, street address and phone number.

5) Must author a 500-word essay, using standard format, on: “Why I Do Not Support the War in Iraq” or “Why I Support the War in Iraq.”
