Sorensen Ranch & Produce, A "fall" place to be!

In Rainbow there is a new market where adults and kids alike can sample a literal taste of fresh produce and a figurative taste of farm life. The Sorensen Ranch & Produce market in Rainbow opened the second weekend in May and has been welcoming guests on weekends ever since. Friday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. people are welcome to shop at the market or take their children to the Petting Farm, which offers small animals such as rabbits and chickens and larger animals such as a miniature donkey, ponies and a pig with a very wiggly tail. “The kids get so excited and their eyes get so big when they see the animals,” said Jerry Sorensen, owner.

The produce market and petting farm was the brainchild of Jerry’s nephew, Chris Sorensen of Temecula. He wanted to build a fun yet relaxing place for the adults and children of the community.

The Sorensens have built a picturesque picnic area with tables set on a cushy grass area, which is bordered by a soothing stream. The stream is a natural wash that has been deepened, then enhanced with boulders and lined with shrubbery. Tiny lights encircle the mature trees, which glow softly at night. The tall trees also provide plenty of shade during the day. The picnic area, which includes a horseshoe pit, is available for private gatherings as well as for picnic lunches.

This time of year the produce market is heavy on the pumpkins, so the color orange prevails. Sorensen Produce also stocks gift items and Western-themed toys. Outdoor patio furniture, including sturdy cement and mosaic tables from México, are reasonably priced. Looking for a fountain? There are several nice pieces in available.

Jerry Sorensen recently retired from Union Bank in Los Angeles; however, he and his family also lived in Fallbrook for fifteen years, when he was serving in the Marine Corps, and his sons are Fallbrook High graduates.

Future plans for Sorensen Ranch & Produce include a possible Christmas tree farm, a show for local artists and maybe an “Old 395 Weekend,” Jerry shared. “It’s a nice place to visit and a nice place for a school field trip,” he said.
