Community garden back on track

FALLBROOK — The Mission Resource Conservation District (MRCD) is resuming work on a community garden.

MRCD is leasing the property, located on Alturas Road, from the Fallbrook Public Utility District. The project began in 2006 but was delayed in the process of obtaining grading plans. Grading services and other equipment has already been donated to continue the momentum on the community garden.

Garden beds and an irrigation system are ready to be installed and a local herb grower has volunteered to donate herbs to the community gardeners. Garden plots will be allotted in spaces measuring 4’x8’x12” and an area will be constructed to include tables, drinking fountains and a shade structure.

This area will be used for educational workshops ranging from storm water pollution to nutrition and health information. The garden involves members of all ages from the community to promote education and cooperation.

“This project has the ability to succeed in a community like Fallbrook,” said intern Amber Briggs, “one that embraces agriculture, education and involvement.”

Mission Resource Conservation District is accepting donations on behalf of the community garden. All donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to PO Box 1777, Fallbrook, CA 92028. Please indicate that the donation is to be placed toward the community garden.
