FGMS learns about tourmaline

On February 21, the Fallbrook Gem & Mineral Society will meet at 7 p.m. at their museum and meeting rooms located at 123 West Alvarado Street.

Guest speaker will be Brendan Laurs, the editor of GIA since 2002. The title of his talk is “Journey to the Source: Paraiba-type Tourmaline from Mozambique.” He will discuss the culture, mines and landscapes of this relatively new source of copper-bearing tourmaline.

Laurs is a gemologist and geologist with a focus on the formation of gem deposits.

The meeting is open to the community. For more information, call (760) 728-1139 or visit http://www.fgms.org.
