Mentors celebrate second anniversary

FALLBROOK — Last week, the GANAS Mentoring Program celebrated their second anniversary with balloons, healthy snacks and fun, painting a poster to show their thoughts and feelings about the program.

This program has grown to include 32 youth ages 9 to 14. The goal of the program is to help young people make good choices in their lives, finish high school and go on to college.

The three groups meet at Turnagain Arms Apartments on East Mission Road, Fallbrook View Apartments on Alturas Road and Summer Ridge Apartments on Alvarado Street.

The sessions are once a week for 90 minutes. Programs include talking activities, games, crafts and field trips. This program falls under the not-for-profit program of the Fallbrook Citizens’ Crime Prevention Committee.

Those interested in becoming mentors (each group needs four mentors to 10 to 12 students) may contact Pat Braendel at (760) 731-9127 or Phyllis Sweeney at (760) 731-3037.
