Village News to celebrate 10th year with Open House

FALLBROOK- The Village News will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with an Open House on Thursday, May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m.

“We are inviting our stockholders, subscribers and advertisers to see our new building, the historic Elder House, and to enjoy the evening on the patio,” said Publisher Julie Reeder. “We want to show our appreciation to the community for its support.”

The Village News has been a communication hub for the Fallbrook, Bonsall, De Luz, and Rainbow area for 10 years. It has won more than 50 journalism awards with a focus on local news, events, organizations, government, education, churches, business and features on local residents.

Readership of the websites have grown to more than 150,000 readers a month for myvillagenews.com and fallbrook.org. Village News print readership has grown to 15,000 weekly.

“We’re extremely thankful that our readership is steady even though the newspaper industry has taken a hit on printed daily circulation,” Reeder said. “We know from demographic studies exactly who our readers are, and they are stable members of our community who want to know what is going on. Whether the New York Times loses daily circulation makes no difference to someone living in our area—they still want to know what is going on in their town, and they aren’t going to get that info on CNN.”

“While we continue to streamline during this challenging time, we are also working hard to improve our product and service to the community. We are very thankful to have reached this milestone and are excited about the new print and online products launching in the next few months.”

The business has grown to include 25 full-time employees and an additional 20 independent contractors since its inception in 1997. The Village News also owns the Valley News, serving Southwest Riverside County.
