Doggie doo-doo and the dollar

Last updated 6/12/2008 at Noon

I was shocked by a little story in the NY Times recently. It was a trivial and unimportant story, but it keeps haunting me because it is the perfect metaphor of our nation’s economy: a young New York City woman was standing on the street corner talking on her cell phone while her toy-sized poodle squatted and took care of its business. When the dog finished, the young woman, not missing a beat while talking on her cell phone, bent down and scooped up her dog’s doo-doo with a dollar bill and dropped it into a nearby trash can.

Is it any wonder gas is reaching $5 gallon? The dollar ain’t worth doggie doo-doo anymore. Soon the rich will be using that $5 bill to wipe up doggie doo-doo, and there seems to be no end in sight.

Inflation is the most insidious of all taxes, and the Bush administration has levied this tax, with the permission of Congress and the Federal Reserve, upon all of us American people to pay for this insane war and to feed the profiteers and privateers of the Military Congressional Industrial complex.

Never before in our history have we gone to war and not raised taxes to fund it. This time the government elected to levy the surreptitious inflation tax instead. But we and future generations are paying for it nevertheless.

We must get rid of Congressman Darrell Issa and elect new people, like Bob Hamilton, who understand economics.
