Cheryl L. Stanton, LCSW, quietly surrendered her long and courageous battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at San Diego Hospice in Carlsbad.
For 23 years prior, she had served others through her skilled and compassionate career in psychotherapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private and agency practice, in Los Angeles and San Diego counties. She worked helping others until less than a month before her death. She was also known by her maiden name, Cheryl Lee Moore.
Cheryl was born in Richmond, IN, on February 3, 1947, but grew up in Darke County, OH, where she graduated from high school in New Madison, OH. Bravely, she moved to Los Angeles, earned a BA at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and finished Cum Laude at the University of Southern California (USC) with a Master of Social Work degree.
Cheryl lived her life in a creative and artful style. She was a gifted contemporary doll maker and excelled in designing her home, rebuilt after its complete loss in the 2002 Santa Margarita fire in Fallbrook.
If asked about something she was especially proud of, she would smile and say that her son, Dr. Vincent Fowble, is a talented orthopedic surgeon. If asked about a recent joyful experience, she would say a horseback ride. And, you would hear about her canine companion, Dillon, if you asked about a love of her life.
Cheryl is survived by her only child, Dr. Vincent Fowble, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sister Lois Troutwine of Arcanum, OH; nephew Kurt (Linda) Troutwine; nieces Vickie (Kevin) Rhodehamel of Arcanum, Debora (Steve) Ganger of Greenville, OH, and Terri (Tim) Alley of Arcanum; great-nieces and -nephews, of whom she was especially proud; and special friends Drude Clark and Betty Warren of Fallbrook.
Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary in Fallbrook has provided their services per Cheryl’s wishes. A private Celebration of Life gathering was held at the Pala Mesa Resort, Fallbrook.
Cheryl’s family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, Attn: Gift Management Services, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
