Michelle B. Crosby, M.D., Ph.D. keynote speaker at AAUW event

FALLBROOK – Ophthalmologist Michelle B. Crosby recently spoke at the American Association of University Women’s annual Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund Tea.

Crosby is the daughter of one of the AAUW officers, Guity Balow who is a Research Chemist and resident of Fallbrook. Crosby told the group of thirty women and one father, how supportive her mother was when Michelle was in medical school.

“I had dissected a pig on the kitchen table. When my mother came home unexpectedly she did not get upset, rather she found the cut up pig fascinating. Her support helped me continue my medical career,” said Crosby.

Crosby continued to relay those things which influenced her to become an Ophthalmologist.

“There is no greater satisfaction than to give someone their vision back,” said Crosby.

The students at the event were either Tech Trek Science Camp graduates attending with a parent or AVID students there with their AAUW mentors. Crosby’s talk stimulated enthusiasm and excitement in the field of Ophthalmology.

Grace VanderWerf and Chris Young were co-coordinators of the event. The tea was catered by The Great Sicilian bakery in Fallbrook and was a fundraiser in support of the Educational Foundation & Legal Advocacy.
