Tribute to an inspiring leader

These are truly trying times. I can name a person who has worked outstandingly hard to make these tough times beneficial for students. At Oasis High independent study, Principal Dr. Shawn Wirth has been an inspiration to me. Dr. Wirth has exemplified a true, hard-working American leader. Her devotion, dedication, and diligence have motivated my educational career.

Dr. Wirth has taken Oasis to the next level in student involvement, technology, and accreditation. Recently, due to state and federal budget cuts, Fallbrook Union High School District had to make some choices. As a result, Dr. Wirth’s position as Director of Student Services and principal of Oasis has been eliminated.

As I pondered over these events, a question entered my mind. What kind of example does this show for students who work hard, achieve goals, and have a vision to improve society? If a student were to labor, get good grades, and achieve goals only to be shut down, what would motivate students to keep trying?

Dr. Wirth had a vision for Oasis and she devoted herself to the students. She has provided a wonderful educational experience for me. I asked her if she had any advice for students and she responded with motivational words of wisdom. “The best advice I can give to you is to always remember that good things come to good people. If you work hard and are honest and have integrity and get along with people, things eventually will work out.” I admire her for working hard in everything she does.

I hope all students will continue to work hard in pursuing an education no matter what. We need to remember not to give up; not to stop trying to our best and help others. In conclusion, Dr. Wirth said, “So continue to work hard, set goals for yourself that will make you happy, and then pursue them with gusto and passion.”

I am taking Dr. Shawn Wirth’s words to heart and will act upon them. Do you inspire others with your hard work and passion?
