Scholarship established at Texas Tech in woman's memory

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook residents Chas and Beth Mudie have established a scholarship fund at Texas Tech University in memory of their daughter, Tonda Haynes, a graduate of the college who passed away in May 2000 from a brain tumor.

Recently, Alicia Knight, development officer for scholarships, and Byron Kennedy, director for planned giving at Texas Tech University made a visit to Fallbrook to talk with the Mudies as well as Fallbrook residents CC and Cammy Willis who are also alums of the university.

The Mudies said many people in Fallbrook have made donations in their daughter’s memory which has been instrumental in establishing the scholarship fund.

“Though the scholarship is small, it is significant in that receiving it allows the person to attend Tech at instate tuition rates,” said Beth Mudie.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the fund may send it to: Texas Tech Foundation, Box 45025, Lubbock, Texas 79409 and place “Tonda S. Haynes Scholarship” on the check. Alicia Knight may be contacted at (806) 742-1780, Ext. 227.
