County provides free sand and bags for residents

FALLBROOK – San Diego County’s Dept. of Public Works (DPW) has announced it is now making free sand and bags available for residents of the unincorporated communities. By preparing sandbags, residents can protect their properties and keep roadways and storm drains clear of flooding, erosion, mud, and debris flow during the winter season.

Residents just need to bring a shovel; the DPW provides the free bags and sand to fill them

“We don’t want to see anyone’s home or property damaged by the flooding and erosion that rains can create,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Ron Roberts. “That’s why we offer this free program year after year and encourage everyone to take advantage of it.”

Because San Diego County is dry most of the year, heavy rains can create severe soil erosion, damage homes and properties, flood roads, and clog storm drains and culverts.

In Fallbrook, free sand and bags are available at North County Fire Station 4, 4375 Pala Mesa Drive.
