Mobile home catches on fire, resident sustains life-threatening injuries; traffic impacted on South Mission Road

A man is fighting for his life this afternoon as a result of sustaining life-threatening injuries in a mobile home fire.

According to North County Fire public information officer John Buchanan, an emergency call went out at about 2:45 p.m. today, Mon., Dec. 14, when a mobile home located on a property in the 4000 block of South Mission Road at Heller's Bend caught on fire.

"An elderly male who lived in the mobile home was taken by medical helicopter to a regional burn center with life-threatening injuries," Buchanan reported. The name of the man has not been released, due to privacy law.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze. "There was no water hydrant nearby, so they had to shuttle water back and forth to the scene," said Buchanan. In addition to North County Fire, Vista and Oceanside fire departments assisted with the fire.

Traffic was impacted on South Mission Road for about 1-1/2 hours as a result of the incident.
