Parkinson Support Group to learn about deep brain stimulation

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Parkinson Support group will hold their monthly meeting, Friday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m. to noon, in the fellowship hall of Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1620 S. Stage Coach Lane, in Fallbrook. The meetings are held the fourth Friday of each month.

This month, Gina Camardo of Abbott Medical Devices will speak on “Deep Brain Stimulus and New Technologies for Parkinson’s disease.”

“When you first hear the term ‘neuromodulation,’ it may sound like a something from an episode of Star Trek. But there’s no science fiction here. The fast-growing field includes devices that change your nerve activity by sending electrical signals to a specific area in your body, according to the International Neuromodulation Society. From neuromodulation comes a therapy called ‘deep brain stimulation.’ For people living with Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, deep brain stimulation can be a revelation as they manage complex medical conditions, transforming their lives for the better,” Camardo said.

Still feel lost in a futuristic sci-fi movie? Come and learn more about deep brain stimulation and how it’s enhancing the lives of people with Parkinson’s disease and essential tremors.

A time of sharing, coffee and refreshments will follow the program. The meeting is held in support of persons with Parkinson’s disease, care partners and people interested in improving the world of those affected by Parkinson’s disease.
