BONSALL — Two construction workers wanted in a rape and knife assault that occurred September 17 were arrested by San Diego County Sheriff’s detectives on September 22.

The week-long investigation ended with the arrest of Edgar Gomez, 23, and Cirilio Martinez, 20, of Bonsall.

The female victim reported that, prior to the attack, she received numerous telephone calls from Gomez and Martinez asking her to meet them. Due to their persistence, the victim said, she ultimately agreed to meet them in the late afternoon at the corner of Olive Hill and Mission Road (SR76). Detectives reported that at approximately 5:30 p.m., the victim met Gomez and Martinez and allowed them into her car. After driving a few minutes, the two told the victim to pull over, as they were close to the turnoff to their shared home. After she parked the car, Gomez and Martinez forced her out of vehicle and then pushed her up a dirt hill.

At this point, detectives said, Gomez allegedly raped the victim, while Martinez acted as a lookout. Afterward, it is believed Martinez pulled a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly. She resisted and was able to break the knife; however, the assailants then began to kick her.

At this point, the victim told investigators, she feigned unconsciousness, at which time they gathered her belongings and ran from the scene. After a few moments, she flagged down a passerby and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Reports reflect that the victim was stabbed more than 75 times. Most were superficial wounds; however, four penetrated at least two inches into her body.

She was able to assist detectives with a composite of her two assailants. This led to eyewitness identification and subsequent arrest.

Gomez and Martinez were booked into the Vista Detention Facility pending their appearance in court. The victim continues to recover from her wounds.
