Art of the Avocado competition opens

FALLBROOK – The Art of the Avocado competition, part of the annual Avocado Festival, is now open. The competition is open to anyone of any age in any artistic medium. The only restriction is that the viewer be able to “see” an avocado somewhere in the work.

New this year, two categories will be offered – two-dimensional and three-dimensional with cash prizes awarded in each. First place will pay $200; second place, $100; and third place, $50. In addition, Brandon Gallery will award a cash prize for its Brandon Gallery Director’s Award. All plaque-type awards will be handmade of fused glass art by Gayle Bamber, who, along with her husband, George, created the Art of the Avocado competition.

A panel of judges, including celebrity judge Rita Coolidge, will determine the winners.

The entries in the Art of the Avocado competition will be on display at Brandon Gallery, 105 N. Main Ave., from April 5 through 28, including the day of the Avocado Festival, April 21.

Awards will be presented on festival day at 2 p.m. in the Avenue of the Arts sector of the festival.

To enter the contest, contact Anita Kimzey at (760) 731-0277 or email [email protected]. Rules and entry form can be downloaded from http://www.fallbrookchamberofcommerce.org. Entry deadline is April 3.

This year’s Art of the Avocado is sponsored by McDaniel Fruit Company, Linda Vista Brand Avocados.
