    Thank you to the 25 to 30 marvelous volunteers who came out to Los Jilgueros Preserve last week with shovels in hand and love in their hearts to assist the 290 La Paloma Elementary School students plant San Diego County native plants at the preserve. The day was beautiful, the dirt was soft and the students were eager to plant and willing to work.     I am currently a ‘Helping Neighbor’ at the Fallbrook Healthcare Foundation. I began monthly veteran workshops last year and now run individual appointments for veteran benefits. I did not realize I had VA benefits coming to me while I was living in the streets for four years. I was suffering from mental illness and I sustained a serious head trauma due to an auto accident.     Last week we spotted swastikas painted on the cement cistern in Los Jilgueros Preserve. We reported it to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Substation, where we were told to contact Rick Aldana with Fallbrook Rotary. Rick promptly painted out the markings.     Fallbrook Quilt Guild continued to celebrate its 20th anniversary with their annual Christmas dinner catered by the Lace Apron on December 6. The dinner was enjoyed by the more than 90 members in attendance.     Vicki Miller, Director of Pastoral Care Services at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, recently received bags of knitted and crocheted clothing for infant children and lap robes for the recovering injured and wounded military personnel.     Because the Camp Pendleton Ranch House is no longer being used as a residence, it is now open for tours for groups of 20 or more. On December 15 they hosted their first “Open House” where the public could get a glimpse of the facility.
