'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' represents book while not a remake of 1971 film

With a new look of the story that most aren’t familiar with, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” stays true to the book written by Roald Dahl. The famous duo of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp bring a new light to an old classic. However, this is not a remake of the 1971 version of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Depp stars as Willy Wonka in this version of the story, which focuses more on Charlie Bucket (portrayed by Freddie Highmore) than on Willy. It does, however, give light into Wonka’s past and goes further than Charlie winning. The differences in the movies are quite obvious, though the course is very similar.

Charlie Bucket, who comes from a very poor family all living in one house, spends a lot of time wondering about the wonders inside the Wonka factory. One night, flyers are found around the world announcing a contest in which five gold tickets have been hidden in chocolate bars and sent throughout the country. The five children who find the tickets will be taken on a tour of Wonka’s chocolate factory and get a special glimpse of the wonders within, and one child will win the grand prize.

Depp brings much humor to the movie, in an odd way. The other four brats who find themselves a ticket are still consumed by other things than being true kids. Augustus (Philip Wiegratz) hungers for food, Violet (Annasophia Robb) hungers for power, Veruca (Julia Winter) is powered by being spoiled rotten and Mike (Jordan Fry) thinks he knows all. The four children have similar fates as in the 1971 movie and the Oompa Loompas do sing. The main difference this time with the Oompa Loompas is the fact that they are played by one actor, Deep Roy. Deep Roy plays 81 different roles in the Oompa Loompas and the rest are computerized.

This movie opened everywhere on July 15 and has a rating of PG. Take the family along to see, and find humor and wonders in this delightful movie. Don’t forget to keep an open mind and remember that it’s not a remake of the 1971 movie.
