Jerry Brown second, third at Rundown for Life - Daughter Lori takes eighth

Rainbow mounted shooters Jerry and Lori Brown competed at the Rundown for Life competition June 1-3 in City of Industry, and both earned top-ten finishes in their divisions.

Jerry earned second in the Men’s 1-3 division and third in the cancer survivors’ division while his daughter took eighth among all ladies.

“The Rundown for Life was a really nice experience,” Jerry said. “It was a nice adventure.”

Rundown for Life was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and was held on what is known as National Survivors Weekend. The prize money was the highest in the history of a mounted shooting contest, although sponsors provided much of that money and proceeds were given to the American Cancer Society.

“It was great because it was for such a good cause,” Lori said. “It was so much more than just a mounted shooting event.”

Rundown for Life included a special competition for cancer survivors only. Jerry, who survived skin cancer, came within two seconds of a second-place time which would have earned him the prize of a Colt pistol. “I was really happy to come in third. I wanted to win a Colt pistol,” he said. “It was a great run and it was a lot of fun.”

Jerry rode Bud for his runs. Lori entered twice and rode both Bud and Ben. “Bud got me through,” Lori said.

After two stages of ten balloons apiece the top ten shooters in each division competed in two additional stages during the second day. Lori competed in the Ladies 4-6 division.

“It was a good meet. We liked it,” Jerry said.

“It was a lot of fun and it was well run and I really enjoyed being there. It was a nice shoot,” Lori said. “Looking forward to next year.”
