'Sound of Music' produces magic

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” is presently playing in the West End of London at the London Palladium. I saved the price of an air ticket and a London theater ticket while being whisked away by an extremely well cast theatrical group that had the chemistry and talent to perform “The Sound of Music” right here in Fallbrook at our own historical Mission Theater.

In addition to an exquisitely designed set, I was impressed by the synchronicity and warmth that exuded from each member of the cast. The standard of musical expertise was of a very high caliber. Needless to say, at the end of the performance, there was an immediate and enthusiastic standing ovation.

Most of us have seen “The Sound of Music” either on stage, at the movies or at home on television. How delightful it was to once again renew the association of songs such as “Maria,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”… and so the repertoire goes on and on.

The magic of this well known play is wrapped up in a message of love, courage and perseverance – something for the whole family to enjoy. Take the time to experience this cultural opportunity, presented by CAST Productions and R&H Theatrics, that began running on May 2 and will continue through to May 25. The expansive live stage experience of many of the cast is quite astounding. Sandra Kopitzke as Maria Rainer and Tom Brault as Captain von Trapp are caught up in the infectious and delightful essence of theatrical chemistry. Ruthann Taylor is superb in her roll as Mother Abbess. Rich La Fetra excellently portrays Max Detweiler. Kris Bauer as Elsa Schraeder exudes just the right touch of elegance and Tim Swistak plays the part of Rolf Gruber.

The von Trapp children interact with one another in perfect magic that steals the audience’s heart. They are played by Katie Corcoran, Chase Ogden, Brandon Schneider, Colette Hamilton, Danielle Osborn, Daria Osborn and last, but not least, Delanie Osborn.

I did take one of my granddaughters to see the play. She so nicely asked me as we were driving home, “Is it possible to see the play once again?”

My final comment to the cast is “Bravo!”
