Cat on pole helped by good samaritans

RIVERSIDE - A handful of residents assisted a cat stuck on a pole and now his foster parent wants to reunite the acrobatic feline with his rightful owner.

Marilyn Floore of Riverside is fostering the 4-year-old cat at her home. She said she believes the cat has an owner because he was wearing a collar when he scaled a utility pole near her property.

The cat somehow ended up on the top of a utility pole on Thursday, April 14. When Floore and residents discovered the cat was still on the pole Friday morning, they grouped together and came up with a rescue plan involving several blankets used as safety nets.

The cat was on a pole in the 3000 block of Saratoga Street in Riverside’s Arlington South neighborhood between Tyler Street and Van Buren Boulevard.

Their plan was to use water to nudge the cat into using one of the blankets for a nice, soft safe landing. The cat leapt – but used his own route. He was not harmed in the fall.

Floore took the cat to her vet, who reported the cat was in good condition and did not suffer any injuries.

Floore has reached out to Riverside County Animal Services to help coordinate a possible reunion with the cat’s owner.

The rightful owner can call Riverside County Animal Services at (951)-358-PETS (7387).

“Concerned residents such as Marilyn and her neighbors should be praised for assisting this little guy,” Animal Services Director Robert Miller said. “Similar to Marilyn’s feelings, we hope we can update this story with a nice reunion chapter soon.”
