54-acre fire fully contained after repeated ground and air assaults

ANZA - A 54-acre brush fire near Anza-Borrego Desert State Park was fully contained tonight after repeated ground and air assaults, and a firefighter was hurt, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The blaze at Tule Canyon Truck Trail and Terwilliger Road was reported at 3:26 p.m. Saturday, said department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson, adding that no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

The blaze was fully controlled at 6 p.m. with a final count of 54 and-a-half-acres burned, Hendrickson said.

''An inmate handcrew member was transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance for treatment of minor to moderate injuries,'' Hendrickson said.

The firefighting effort included five helicopters, four fixed wing aircraft, two bulldozers and 165 firefighters from Cal Fire and Riverside, San Diego and Orange counties.

75-acre fire is 20 percent contained

ANZA - A 75-acre brush fire near Anza-Borrego Desert State Park was an estimated 20 percent contained this morning after repeated ground and air assaults by firefighters, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The blaze at Tule Canyon Truck Trail and Terwilliger Road was reported at 3:26 p.m. Saturday, said department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson, adding that no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

Hendrickson said the firefighting effort involved five helicopters, four fixed wing aircraft, two bulldozers and 165 firefighters from Cal Fire and Riverside, San Diego and Orange counties.
