Acclaimed international concert pianist to perform in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK – In continuing its reputation for presenting excellence in classical music performances, Fallbrook Music Society is honored to present Alexander Schimpf in a solo recital in Fallbrook on Sunday, Feb. 16 in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts.

In 2011, Schimpf became the first German pianist to ever win first prize at the esteemed Cleveland International Piano Competition. Schimpf has quickly established himself as one of the world’s finest young musicians.

Over the past few years Alexander Schimpf has risen to worldwide prominence by impressively winning a series of competitions, including the 2008 German Music Competition (a distinction no pianist had earned for 14 years), and first prize at the 2009 International Beethoven Competition in Vienna.

In his Fallbrook program, Schimpf will delight concertgoers with Bach’s “Toccata in E minor,” Schubert’s “Piano Sonata in A minor,” Debussy’s “L’Isle joyeuse,” as well as selections from Grieg’s “Lyric Pieces,” Chopin’s Mazurkas, and Kapustin’s “Preludes in Jazz Style.”

“As a young, charismatic artist with great artistic maturity, Mr. Schimpf has dazzled audiences all over the world with his charisma and sensitive interpretations,” said Ann Murray, executive director of Fallbrook Music Society. “As part of the Music Society’s ongoing program activities in education, Mr. Schimpf will be hosting a pre-concert lecture on “The Craft of Competition.’”

The class will also focus on performance technique, preparation and music selection. Schimpf will share his thoughts on what it takes to be a successful musician, not just in the US, but also around the world. This lecture is free to all ticket holders.

The Fallbrook concert will be held in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16 with the pre-concert lecture beginning at 2 pm.
