Summer solstice is nearing which means theatre will be in full bloom shortly.

Here's what is happening around San Diego County.

Broadway San Diego is opening May 31 to June 5 with "Hadestown" exploring the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice set to music, followed by "Disney's The Lion King" coming Aug. 24 to Sept. 11. Here is a fun family show in town! "The Music Man'' is produced by Fallbrook's own, Curtain Call Company. Tickets are available for Friday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m.. The Cygnet Theatre is continuing with "Mud Row" until June 19, followed by "Cabaret" July 13 to Aug. 21 at 4040 Twiggs St, San Diego, CA 92110. For tickets, call 619-337-1525 or visit cygnettheare.com.

Diversionary Theatre LGBTQ+ continues with "Eighty-Sixed" until June 12. By the way, the theater is just down the street from a really great pie shop. Parking is on the street and sometimes hard to find. Cabaret nights are listed on the website. Lambs' Playhouse will run "Million Dollar Quartet" until July 3. If you book now, you will have time to see it twice! My favorite time to go to Coronado is on Sunday and make a day of it. La Jolla Playhouse opens July 14 with the West Coast Premiere of a new musical, "Lempicka" centered amidst the Russian revolution and a daring escape to Paris. The playhouse is at 2910 La Jolla Village Dr. La Jolla, CA 92037. For tickets, call 858-550-1010 or visit lajollaplayhouse.org.

Moonlight Amphitheater runs with "Memphis, The Musical" until May 28 followed by Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" opening June 25 at 1250 Vale Terrace Dr. Vista, CA 92084. For tickets, call 760-724-2110 or visit moonlightstage.com.

New Village Arts is performing at the Carlsbad Flower Fields again this summer. Up first is the songwriting duo Jeff Berkley and Calman Hart on Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m., and there is Standing Room Only Thursday, June 9 to see The Comma's, a trio performing love songs and old standards. Bring your dancing shoes. Punster linguist-funny-man Richard Lederer will perform for one night only Sunday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in Carlsbad. North Coast Repertory opens this month with "The Outgoing Tide" a look into aging, June 8 to July 3 at 987 Lomas Santa Fe Dr Suite D Solana Beach with lots of free parking. For tickets, call 858-481-1055 or visit northcoastrep.org.

Shakespeare in the park is back! Opening this season is "Taming of the Shrew" in the Old Globe Theater huddled deep inside Balboa Park. Also running is "Mala" which you can catch in either English or the all-Spanish version, depending on the performance, until July 12. Check theoldglobe.org for dates and times. Consider buying parking too since finding a free spot can be tough. It's on the website and nearby behind the complex. For tickets, call 619-234-5623.

Roustabouts Theatre is performing "Iron" at the Moxie Theatre. This is not a musical. It is about a woman who is spending life in prison for brutally killing her husband. Meanwhile, at Scripps Ranch Theatre, 10755 Scripps Poway Parkway, they are opening with "I Hate Hamlet" directed by local funny man Phil Johnson. It should be a hoot. I'll see it on the 29th so watch for my review. For tickets, call 858-395-0573 or visit scrippsranchtheatre.org.

Further down the 15 over to the 163S, San Diego Musical Theatre will close "In The Heights" on June 5. You shouldn't miss it. The theatre moved to 4650 Mercury St. San Diego, CA 92111 with free parking. For tickets, call 858-560-5740 or visit http://www.sdmt.org.

San Diego Repertory performs at the Lyceum Stage at 79 Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego. Parking is $10, in the same loop and across the street. They are still in JFEST mode and have several interesting opportunities. Running with "In Every Generation" the tale of a family from 1416 BCE up into 2050 along with other activities including a "Hershey Felder" donation and dessert show on July 11 for $180 per person. Downtown along the waterfront, San Diego Symphony's Smooth Jazz series opens June 12 and the Summer Pops series on June 24, both performing at the outdoor Rady Shell. You will wish to book the series, it's a delightful venue although parking starts at $30+. Check local hotels along with their websites for prepaid parking. Lastly, the Eagles tribute hits the ground running at The Welk Theatre in Escondido June 1 to Aug. 31. Shows are Wednesday at 7 p.m. Starting July 2 and running through Aug. 20 on Saturday nights at 7 p.m., travel back in time to the Beatles tribute for "Hard Day's Night."
