After-school students Walk Across America

FALLBROOK — The La Paloma After School Education and Safety (ASES) program is taking the initiative to prevent obesity in students. On January 12 the students began their “Walk Across America.” This is an optional activity for the after-school students during their free play, which consists of 30 minutes.

Sixty students are participating on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each child is being tracked individually; every time they walk one lap, it is recorded on a chart. Every 10 laps walked equals one state that they have crossed. As of January 26, the La Paloma ASES students have walked 158 miles.

A map of the United States was created to show the students’ progress, allowing them to see what states they have walked across. This activity will end on February 26. The three finalists will attend a smoothie party and will be allowed to bring up to five friends.
