Soul Roll Expo 4 in Fallbrook to bring variety of genres Saturday

FALLBROOK – Valley and Village News are kicking off the beginning of summer with another Soul Roll Expo, set for May 14, 11 a.m. to 9 pm. This all-ages event promises to provide a great time with live bands, food from Trupiano‘s, demonstrations, free caricature drawings, an over-21 beer garden, and product raffles and giveaways.

“We will continue to bring positive vibes all day to Main Street with several bands, some returning, and some playing for the first time in Fallbrook,” said Julie Reeder, publisher of Village and Valley News, who sponsors the events for newspaper customers, readers, and the community at large. “We’re definitely bringing a little more variety to our music set this time, bringing much more rock, classic rock, and even a little bit of country.”

Reggae dominated the music in prior Soul Rolls like when legendary Pato Banton took the stage last July.

This year, early in the day, Rock Mountain, a local favorite band will perform classic rock. Rock Mountain music is the result of some 70s influences – namely Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Charlie Daniels, AC/DC, etc.

Fly by Night will also perform early and is a new addition. This band won recent Battle of the Band competitions in Murrieta, Temecula, and most recently in Fallbrook.

“They played for an enthusiastic crowd during the Avocado Festival last weekend and we expect to see this band really go places,” said Reeder.

Back by popular demand will be Social Green.

“They are definitely one of the favorites at Soul Roll,” said Schascha, who is once again helping organize the event.

Mean Dinosaur, a band around since 2006, will appear at this year’s event. Its label is the indie Above Ground Records, and the music is experimental, jam band and reggae.

“They are awesome and we are excited to have them perform at Soul Roll and introduce them to the ‘friendly village,’ said Reeder.”I enjoy bringing music and life to Main Street, but also its fun to introduce people outside Fallbrook to our community. We have something special here in our quaint, diverse, rural community.”

When Pato Banton played in Fallbrook, he talked repeatedly from the stage about how happy he was to visit Fallbrook for the first time and afterwards, in an email, wrote of his experience in Fallbrook: “The pleasure was all mine. I couldn’t have dreamed of having a better experience in Fallbrook!”

Village News is working to book Pato Banton again this summer when he is available and will have more information available about future events at Soul Roll on May 14.

In addition to the above bands, according to Schascha, also working on the stage and sound, “We have Rapscallion, Sportdank, and Indica Roots playing too. It’s a solid line-up, in addition to Munson Keef, who debuted in Fallbrook and since then, hasn’t looked back!”

Food is being provided by Trupiano’s and the beer garden as well for adults age 21 and over. There will also be a caricature artist on hand to do free caricature drawings for the crowd. The drawings will be free, but tips will be appreciated. Face painting is also planned as well as other activities.

“Its going to be a really fun day,” says Reeder, “We’re all looking forward to it.” These events are intended to underscore the company’s appreciation for its customers’ continued support and readership and to give area youth an opportunity for some much-needed fun downtown.

The May 14 Soul Roll will begin at 11 a.m. at the Elder House, 127 W. Elder Street (corner of Main St. and Elder) in Fallbrook, which is located about 12 miles south of Temecula. Entrance is $10 for the day. There are a limited number of tickets available, and they can be reserved at SoulRollExpo.com, purchased from band members, or at the Village News/Valley News office inside the Elder House.

Additional late-breaking information will be posted on the Valley News website at http://www.myvalleynews.com, on Facebook, and at http://www.soulrollexpo.com.
