Boys & Girls Clubs launch new after-school snack program

FALLBROOK – The Boys & Girls Clubs of North County has partnered with the Child and Adult Care Food Program in an effort to increase the healthy habits of children in the Fallbrook community. In conjunction with its after-school program, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County will now be providing “Super Snacks” to all club members at the Ingold Unit located on 445 East Ivy Street.

“It’s our goal to provide our children with all the resources they need to succeed in becoming healthy, productive citizens in our community,” said Allison Barclay, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. “We saw an opportunity to partner with the California Department of Education to meet a critical need among our members, and we are excited to see the immediate affect this program is having.”

Every day after school, an average of 140 club members receive a free snack that consists of milk, two or more different kinds of fruits/vegetables, grain/bread, and a protein. These Super Snacks are helping teach members how a healthy, well-balanced snack can both nourish and taste good at the same time.
