Rainbow Municipal Water District charges a pump charge to some people, primarily in the community of Rainbow and in Morro Hills. Others in Fallbrook or Bonsall do not pay this charge. There will be an evening meeting of the Board on June 24 where I will present information demonstrating this is an unjust charge. If you are paying this unfair assessment, I hope to see you there. It is the end of the school year and I would love to thank all the teachers for their hard work. Thanks to all the teachers at Iowa Street School. Thank you so much to Mrs. Kaeser, the VAPA teacher; Mrs. Leonard, the Junior High Time teacher; Mrs. Hansen, the writing teacher; Mrs. Koran, my “turn in” teacher; and Mr. Leonelli, the technology teacher. Thanks for educating me in all these areas of school. The PTA peoples did a great job through the school year too! This has been a great 2007-2008 school year. I am looking for...

  • Thank you, Maddy

    Updated Jun 19, 2008

It was a pleasure to read the article about Madelyn Goble [“Fallbrook’s Goble named Nurse of the Year,” 6/12/08]. You captured her “caring charm” that is missing in life so much today, whether it is in a hospital setting or everyday life. We met the Gobles almost 20 years ago. Our families were both new to Fallbrook and we met by chance in a restaurant. Since that time our paths have crossed on numerous occasions because of children, church and work. I always feel it is a good day when Maddy has been part of it. Our town...

  • A labor of love

    Updated Jun 19, 2008

Today your beautiful blanket came into my home and made my heart and life feel the best kind of joy. The joy of the Lord gives to have people like you who bring gifts that light up homes with great love and caring that comes forth from hands that surely are touched by God Himself. How does one say thank you? I can only say your gift of this blanket is placed in my home for all who pass by to see it and be as blessed by its beautiful colors as I am. You are very special folks who reach out to all of us who lost so much in the...

  • Issa for Bush

    Updated Jun 19, 2008

Congress recently voted on a bipartisan basis 311-104 to authorize funding for the next five years for Amtrak. Issa was among the minority that voted against said funding, a bill that Bush has said he would veto. As gas prices have soared above $4 per gallon nationally, Amtrak ridership in May was the highest recorded in its 37-year history. Some of the money is budgeted for matching grants to help states set up or expand rail service. Yet Issa once again stood lock-step with Bush policies rather than with constituents who...

  • Supreme Court does the right thing

    Updated Jun 19, 2008

This week the Supreme Court for the third time said Bush cannot hold prisoners at Guantanamo Bay indefinitely but must allow “habeas corpus” hearings in US courts. John McCain said that the ruling is “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.” Barack Obama said, “This is an important step toward reestablishing our credibility as a nation committed to the rule of law and rejecting a false choice between fighting terrorism and respecting habeas corpus.” People who think habeas corpus doesn’t matter have n...

  • Can FPUD add, subtract and multiply?

    Updated Jun 19, 2008

A recent article entitled “Sludge Savings” concerning FPUD’s new sludge drying plant (NC Times, 6/7/08) is troublesome. FPUD claims they are now saving $6,000/month ($72,000/year) previously spent “to haul wet sludge to disposal sites.” However, FPUD is now producing dried sludge and the cost of operating this new sludge drying plant is $75,000/year. This is a net loss of $3,000/year. In addition, FPUD is presently selling, to a local flower producer(?) 20 tons/month of this dried sludge for $4 per ton, producing $960/year...
