Atanacio Velasco, 88

Atanacio Velasco, 88, passed away on November 23, 2006, in Escondido, CA. He was born on April 18, 1921, in Zacatecas, Mexico. Mr. Velasco was a resident of Fallbrook for 42 years.

Mr. Velasco worked for East Brothers Grove Management and retired in 1986. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fallbrook and co-founder of Union Mutualista de San Jose at St. Peter’s, where he and his wife, Bertha, were the first catechism instructors. Atanacio and Bertha were also the founders of the Migrant Worker Breakfast Ministry at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Velasco was preceded in death by grandson Rigoberto Garcia in 1988. He is survived by Bertha, his wife of more than 40 years, Fallbrook, CA; sons Felix, Alberto, Tony and Juan; daughters Chela, Meyo, Tere, Lucy and Luisa; 31 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

A public visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Thursday, November 30, 2006, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with vigil service. A Mass will be held at St. Peter’s on Friday, December 1, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery. Berry-Bell & Hall handled arrangements.
