Just up the road a bit is a place where you can park your car and have fun all day! Still going strong after 12 years, Mulligan Family Fun Center in Murrieta is an amusement park that offers games and rides for all ages. Adults and kids alike will enjoy miniature golf and small children will feel at home in the kid’s ride area, which includes a train ride, carousel, tea cups and kangaroo jump.
Because they want to keep their park fresh and exciting, Mulligan adds new attractions from time to time. Recent additions include a mini-bowling area, “Hwy 66,” with two 25-foot lanes. The idea is to offer a game that is smaller than regular bowling but larger and more challenging than skee-ball. The object is to knock down the pins, which are arranged in sets of five. With bumpers on the lanes, a five-year-old could compete with a parent on the next lane.
New in April was a play area where smaller children, age two to six or so, can climb through tunnels and up and around the maze of tubes.
Also new is an exciting gamer’s lounge called “The Kage” with fifteen X-Box 360s that are interlinked. Guests can compete with the person sitting next to them. The room offers comfy gaming chairs and flat-panel televisions. It is a great place to come with friends or just try out a wide selection of video games.
Outdoors the vroom, vroom of the new go-karts racing around the track generates its own excitement. Scott Agajanian, marketing manager, said that the 26 new go-karts, which they run 12 at a time, are faster, quieter and smoother than the ones they replaced.
The familiar attractions, such as an outdoor miniature golf course and an incredible 3,200-square -foot “Lazer Tag” arena where up to 28 can play at once, are still as fun as ever. The rock-climbing wall is always ready for action in hot weather or cold, rain or shine, because it’s indoors.
Underneath a replica of Arches National Park’s Delicate Arch are the blaster boats, which zip through a pond and blast water during the summer but morph into bumper boats during the winter. In the colder months, the boats still zip around but the riders don’t get as wet!
This year, the food menu has been completely redesigned and guests won’t be able to pass up the snack bar with its tantalizing scents of teriyaki burgers, club sandwiches and salads, among other tasty items. “The food is very good,” said Agajanian, “and this is coming from a person who eats here every day!”
The park is reintroducing music to various events, including their popular Teen Lock-In nights. Security is tight and uniformed officers wander the grounds while staff members guard the front doors. From 8 p.m. to midnight, the teens can pay one price and enjoy the attractions. The next event is scheduled for November 7; the last lock-in took place September 26 and included entertainment from the Christian rock band Sorrow Underfoot of Fallbrook.
A rip-roaring Country Western Hoedown is a new event coming up on Saturday, October 25, from 5 to 11 p.m. Guests will be able to enjoy an all-you-can-eat barbeque buffet with hamburgers, BBQ chicken sandwiches, beans, cornbread, roasted corn and soda. Also included in the admission price are live country music, square-dancing and a kids’ petting zoo, as well as unlimited use of go-karts, Lazer-tag, miniature golf, blaster boats and the rock wall, among other attractions.
Mulligan still offers birthday party packages, sports team specials and office party packages.
Most companies have a mission statement, but Mulligan calls their motto a “passion statement” because they are passionate about what their park can offer guests. “To always provide a safe, memorable, fun-filled experience to our community,” says it all.
